Product Description

STEM is the acronym used for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

STEM education is based on the idea of educating children in four specific subjects in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teaching the four disciplines on a separate basis, STEM integrates children into a more cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications of the subjects.

The emphasis is on fun, yet we inspire learning about concepts through dialogue and questioning.

***PLEASE NOTE THAT TOPICS AND/OR THE ORDER OF TOPICS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE***

Monday 8 April: Energy Experiments

Your child will begin this week’s Easter Camp by participating in a variety of energy-based experiments. Children will learn about endothermic and exothermic reactions, enthalpy, bond energies and much more.

Tuesday 9 April: Mecha-Energy

Using Arduino as a microcontroller, children will be tasked with assembling a circuit that contains a temperature sensor. Children will use various LEDs as a temperature indicator including how RGB LEDs work.

Wednesday 10 April: Energetic Robotics

In line with environmental policy, many countries encourage the use of electric vehicles in order to reduce emissions. In this session, your child will programme a Lego Mindstorms EV3 robot to move as an autonomous car would. Children will learn about programming, robotics and automation.

Thursday 11 April: Joules and All

Joules and all teach children about how mathematics can be applied to the vast field of energy. Children will learn about and calculate concepts such as specific heat capacity and specific latent heat. Children will also participate in hands-on activities to calculate kinetic energy and gravitational potential energy.

Friday 12 April: It Renews or Not

In this engineering-based session, children will be learning about the engineering principles behind both renewable and non-renewable energy. Children will be tasked with designing and building a renewable energy source for a new town in the UK.
