    ABOUT THIS CAMP

This face-to-face camp has been designed for children to enjoy, have fun and learn. In the English session, we will cover reading comprehension, verbal reasoning and creative writing. Children will practise questions from a range of different texts and will be introduced to different writing prompts to support their performance. The standard at 11+ is exceptionally high. Therefore, children will need to produce writing of a high standard with correct spelling, punctuation and grammar. Children will also need to have an extensive vocabulary bank. We will provide support and practise in these areas.

In the mathematics session, we will cover a broad range of subject areas including algebra, statistics, position and reflection, geometry, fractions and decimals. Children will also have guided practice with non-verbal reasoning questions that cover topics such as rotations and symmetry, odd one out, working out the next diagram in a sequence and cube nets. We are aware of the changing assessment  patterns in schools. Many independent schools also require children to be confident public speakers and collaborate effectively as a group.  In session 3,  we have developed skills-based activities to encourage children to build their skills and develop practice in public speaking, interviews, teamwork and debating.

    WHAT WE TEACH

We teach children how to approach exam questions and answer effectively. We build children’s confidence in exam situations including managing their time and keeping calm under pressure. We provide feedback on exam answers and provide model responses for children to understand questions and plan their responses accordingly. We motivate children to work independently and take ownership of their work. Children work on a range of different exam questions so that they have experience of a range of different question types in the lead up to the 11+ exams. We also dedicate every afternoon to building children’s skills in interviewing, public speaking and working as a team which we consider crucial to a child’s overall performance at 11+.

    DIFFERENTIATION

We understand that ‘one size does not fit all‘. Therefore, our tutors and mentors differentiate the content of our sessions. We ensure that all children, regardless of their level of knowledge, are engaged at the appropriate level and pace.
