FACE-TO-FACE HUMANOID ROBOTICS SATURDAY CLASS WITH NAO ROBOT V6
Description
Programme
***BRAND NEW TOPICS, PROJECTS AND DISCUSSIONS***
See ‘Eddie’ our Humanoid Robot: Click here to see our Humanoid Robot in action.
Frequency: Every Saturday. See calendar here.
Time: From 9:30 am until 11:30 am  for children aged 9-17
Age: Strictly for children aged 9 or older. Proof of age is required. No exceptions.
Location: More House School. 22-24 Pont Street. Knightsbridge. SW1X 0AA
Joining instructions:  We send our joining instructions 48 hours before the first day of the class (normally Saturdays afternoon). We encourage you to read and follow our instructions carefully as it contains important information on our registration and dismissal procedures.
Tutor-Child Ratio: strictly 1:5 (one tutor and five children). Minimum of two children and a maximum of five children. We will offer you an alternative course if the course is fully booked or if the course does not open.
Resources for the session:Â We provide the NAO (V6) robot, a laptop and a notebook. Children do not need to bring any equipment.
What is a humanoid robot? A humanoid robot is a machine that is built, coded and programmed to resemble human movements and behaviour. Humanoid robots may also have an overall appearance of a human such head, torso, legs and arms.
What is the purpose of Robotics & Programming?  Nowadays, coding, artificial intelligence, robotics and programming are considered a basic but fundamental literacy skill within the digital age. Therefore, it is paramount for children to learn and have a good understanding of how computer science works so they will also be able to understand how technology works and how technology continually evolves around us.
The importance of learning robotics and programming at a young age:Â Â Computer science at schools is becoming a central concept in many academic institutions these days. Aside from the practical impact of coding and programming for future careers, it also offers other benefits for children learning the process. For both, the academic and non-academic performance of the children, coding tends to make a positive impact. Several educational institutions now introduce coding in their curriculum, including universities. It seems like the world has become more dependent on technology nowadays, and knowledge of coding is an advantage in the professional world.
About this course: This face-to-face summer camp has been designed for children to enjoy, have fun and learn. Our face-to-face summer camp is exclusively delivered on a one to three ratio for greater scope for interaction, dialogue, questions and answers between the tutor and the child. We motivate children to develop their understanding of computer science and specific coding languages while having fun. We also stimulate children to be creative. We teach children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution.
What we teach in this class: Fundamental principles or robotics, programming, coding and artificial intelligence. Understanding of cognitive technology and automation. Impact of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Academic impact: Coding and programming help children learn mathematics, in a practical way, since they start to visualise abstract concepts. Children are encouraged to see the real-world application of mathematics instead of relying solely on abstract figures that sometimes they cannot relate to. Children might also improve in writing because of the development of coding and programming skills. Children learn the value of planning before starting a task. Children also learn how to be concise but accurate.
About the tutors and mentors: We employ a range of tutors and mentors from primary and secondary school teachers, masters students, undergraduate students, PhDÂ and Doctorate students, academic Doctors and post-doctoral researchers. All our tutors and mentors are specialists in their subjects.
Differentiation: At Richer Education, we understand that ‘one size does not fit all‘. Therefore, our tutors and mentors differentiate the content of our sessions. We ensure that all children, regardless of their level of knowledge, are engaged at the appropriate level and pace.

ABOUT NAO ROBOT (V6)
NAO is a highly sophisticated humanoid robot which is widely used in academic research, companies and healthcare centres around the world. The NAO robot is widely known around the world and it is a tremendous programming tool for learning programming, robotics, coding and artificial intelligence. Nao is designed to interact with people, recognise objects, faces. The robot creates a unique human-robot interaction experience. The robot is highly capable of autonomous movement, is able to converse with children, identify objects and interact with its environment. Children can explore event-based configurations using the NAO behaviour modules or create own behaviours using Python for more complex scripts.
WHAT WE TEACH
Introduction to humanoid robots, Hardware and Software, Sensors, Speech action, Motion Algorithms, Virtual world, Virtual vision, Infrared Sensors, Sonar Detection, Touch Sensors, Light Sensors, Directional Microphones and Speech Recognition, Artificial Intelligence, Circumnavigation, Assistive Robotics, Robot Learning, Machine Learning, Simulation and Reality, Human-Robot Collaboration, Event-based programming methodologies, WeBots, Standing, Walking and Sitting behaviours, Dance Project.
IN THIS CLASS CHILDREN WILL
- Learn and consolidate fundamental principles of robotics, coding, artificial intelligence & programming
- Learn how to program a robot using light, ultrasonic, touch and infrared sensors
- Understand how artificial intelligence works
- Work on practical activities using a humanoid robot (NAO, V6)
- Develop problem-solving skills, teamwork and resilience
- Have fun
EXTRA-CURRICULAR IMPACT: THE DEVELOPMENT OF SKILLS FOR LIFE
From experience, we notice that children tend to develop transferable skills through coding and programming. Coding and programming involve creative thinking. We stimulate children to problem-solve. Sometimes, children tend to expect to be right all the time. We teach children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution.
