When: Monday 23 July until Friday 27 July inclusive

 

Time: From 9:00 am until 3:30 pm (registration opens at 8:40 am and closes at 8:55 am)

 

Children: 4 to 11 (children are organised into separate groups depending on their age and level of knowledge)

 

Level: All levels of knowledge are welcomed

 

Location: Imperial College London. Huxley Building. 180 Queens Gate. SW7 2RH

 

Lunch: Children bring their packed lunch, a few snacks and enough water for the day

 

Children will be participating in a variety of demonstrations, group activities and practical experiments and will learn about exciting and enriching topics. Students learn through a hands-on approach and are welcome to take home any objects they have made throughout the week. See more details below.

Monday 23 July: Amazing Aeronautics

Aeronautics is the area of science that deals with rockets and aircraft. Your child will learn about the science behind flight and will design and build model airplanes and rockets.

 

Tuesday 24 July: Gracious Gravity

This session will teach children about what gravity is, mass, weight and the centre of gravity. Children will investigate finding the centre of gravity in different objects and will design and build toys.

 

Wednesday 25 July: The Science of Senses

We put our eyes, ears, nose and sense of touch to use in this session. Children will learn about the role of the brain in understanding the world around us along with the nervous system.

 

Thursday 26 July: Pirate Science

Pirate science covers a broad range of topics including navigation, engineering, physics and biology. Children will investigate the amount of vitamin C present in different food products and why it is important. Children will also design and build a ship.

 

Friday 27 July: Crazy Cosmetics

In this chemistry-based session, children will be learning about the different chemical reactions that take place when different cosmetic products are produced. Children will make bath bombs, soap and much more.
