INTEGRATED CODING, MECHATRONICS and ROBOTICS SUMMER CAMP (MON. 8 JULY – FRI. 12 JULY 2019)

£395.00

Dates: Monday 8 July until Friday 12 July inclusive.

 

Time: From 9:00 am until 3:30 pm (registration opens at 8:40 am and closes at 8:55 am).

 

Age: 9 to 14. STRICTLY FOR CHILDREN AGED 9-14. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE. (children are organised into separate groups according to their age and level of knowledge).

 

Location: Royal School of Mines building. Prince Consort Road. SW7 2BP.

 

Level: All levels of knowledge are welcome.

 

Lunch: Children bring their packed lunch, a few snacks and enough water for the day.

 

Children will be participating in a variety of demonstrations, group activities and practical experiments and will learn about exciting and enriching topics. Children learn through a hands-on approach and are welcome to take home any objects they have made throughout the week. See more details below.

Monday 8 July: The Microbot

Children will cover coding, the Microbit and robotics in this session. Firstly, children will gain an insight into what a Microbit is and how it is programmed before progressing to building their Microbot (robot) and coding it.

 

 

Tuesday 9 July: Drawing Shapes with Python Turtle

In this session, children will focus on using Python and Python turtle to code and create their own shapes. Children will commence with Python Turtle before using PyCharm and Visual Studio.

 

 

Wednesday 10 July: The Robot Parking Challenge

In this session, children will use the touch sensor on Lego Mindstorms EV3 to programme a robot to park within a given space. Your child will be introduced to autonomous vehicles and parking sensors before practising with robots.

 

 

Thursday 11 July: Plotting your Variables

In this session, children will use the software and hardware components of Arduino to learn about variables. Children will construct circuits using a breadboard before amending the programme when requested.

 

 

Friday 12 July: Simulating a Flock of Birds

Children will be provided with a code and will be expected to amend the code using Python according to the instructions given.
