INTEGRATED CODING, MECHATRONICS and ROBOTICS SUMMER CAMP (MON. 5 aug. – FRI. 9 Aug. 2019)

Dates: Monday 5 August until Friday 9 August inclusive.

 

Time: From 9:00 am until 3:30 pm (registration opens at 8:40 am and closes at 8:55 am).

 

Age: 9 to 14. STRICTLY FOR CHILDREN AGED 9-14. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE. (children are organised into separate groups according to their age and level of knowledge).

 

Location: Chemical Engineering building. Imperial College Road. SW7 2AZ.

 

Level: All levels of knowledge are welcome.

 

Lunch: Children bring their packed lunch, a few snacks and enough water for the day.

 

Children will be participating in a variety of demonstrations, group activities and practical experiments and will learn about exciting and enriching topics. Children learn through a hands-on approach and are welcome to take home any objects they have made throughout the week. See more details below.

Monday 5 August: Cryptology

Cryptology is the study of codes or the art of writing or decoding them. In this session, children will learn about the developing area of cryptology and cybersecurity before writing their own password that their peers must decipher.

 

 

Tuesday 6 August: Be an Outstanding Chef – The Oven Controller

In this Arduino-based session, children will gain an insight into the following components: temperature sensor sand indicators, LCD screens and motor controllers. The main aim is to adapt them in order to make an oven controller and show students how real ovens work.

 

 

Wednesday 7 August: Functions and Objects

In this Python-based session, children will gain a deeper insight into functions and objects. Your child will explore more advanced uses of functions as well as introducing children to object-oriented programming.

 

 

Thursday 8 August: The Colour Sensor

In this session, children will learn about the working principles of the colour sensor in EV3 robotics before progressing onto robot-based navigation tasks including stopping when a certain colour is reached and a simple line-following task.

 

 

Friday 9 August: The Robot Football Challenge

In this session, children will learn how to program the EV3 robot to play robotic football. Your child will learn how to use the ball-shooting mechanism installed on the front of the robot and how to program the IR remote with all the required functionalities. The session will culminate in a robot football match.
