The emphasis is on fun, yet we inspire learning about concepts through dialogue and questioning.
***PLEASE NOTE THAT TOPICS AND/OR THE ORDER OF THE TOPICS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE***
Monday 17 February: Transportation
Our opening day of the STEAM camp integrates concepts from science, engineering and mathematics. Children will build model railways, tramways, highways and decide on the most suitable materials to construct a road with. Children will need to take account the environmental factors, such as conservation of existing wildlife.
Tuesday 18 February: Autonomous Vehicles
The future of transport in cities is heading towards autonomous vehicles. For example, Uber’s self-driving cars. In this robotics-based session, children will learn how computer programmers, engineers and mathematicians will make this a reality. Children will use the Lego Mindstorms EV3 Robot to programme a robot to navigate a course and move autonomously.
Wednesday 19 February: Coding in the City
Knowledge of Python and other computer languages is beneficial for many aspects of city life. Children will be introduced to the fundamentals of Python before progressing to activities such as coding a bike hire app and number plate recognition system. Children will work independently as they develop their coding skills.
Thursday 20 February: City Planners
Knowledge of mathematics is integral when planning and designing a new city or urban area. In this session, children will use their knowledge of mathematics to calculate distances on maps, make scale models and create a 3D model of a city using geometrical concepts.
Friday 21 February: The Best Materials
Awareness of material properties is necessary when designing and building houses, bridges and more. In this session, your child will be testing, evaluating and selecting the best materials to use in their new city. Children will need to factor in cost, energy efficiency and the environmental impact.
We offer 10% siblings discount (from your second child onwards).
Individual sessions are charged at a flat rate of £95 per child/per day.
