ADVANCED SCIENCE SUMMER CAMP (MON. 15 JULY – FRI. 19 JULY 2019)

Dates: Monday 15 July until Friday 19 July inclusive.

 

Time: From 9:00 am until 3:30 pm (registration opens at 8:40 am and closes at 8:55 am).

 

Age: 9 to 14. STRICTLY FOR CHILDREN AGED 9-14. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE. (children are organised into separate groups according to their age and level of knowledge).

 

Location: Royal School of Mines building. Prince Consort Road. SW7 2BP

 

Level: All levels of knowledge are welcome.

 

Lunch: Children bring their packed lunch, a few snacks and enough water for the day

 

Children will be participating in a variety of demonstrations, group activities and practical experiments and will learn about exciting and enriching topics. Children learn through a hands-on approach and are welcome to take home any objects they have made throughout the week. See more details below.

Monday 15 July: Rocket Science

We commence this week’s advanced science camp with a look at rocket science, engineering and physics. Children will work in teams to design and construct an air-powered and water-powered rocket. Children will learn about aeronautics, forces and more.

 

 

Tuesday 16 July: Brilliant Brains

The brain is responsible for a multitude of both voluntary and involuntary actions in the body. In this session, children will learn about the structure and function of the brain through a brain dissection and will discover the different components of the nervous system.

 

 

Wednesday 17 July: Biotechnology

Biotechnology is an area of science that utilises living things to produce or improve a product. Baking and brewing are examples of biotechnology. In this session, children will participate in experiments based around biotechnological processes such as the use of yeast in food production.

 

 

Thursday 18 July: Geological Sciences

Geological sciences encompass concepts from both science and geography. In this session, children will recreate earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides and tectonic plates as they learn about the underlying scientific and geological processes.

 

 

Friday 19 July: Energise

Energy is the ability to get work done. In this session, your child will learn about the different energy equations, the different types of energy and the law of conservation of energy. Children will participate in activities such as a building a crumple zone on a car.

Any days booked individually will be charged at £90.00 per child.
