Location: Online via Zoom. Please be ready five minutes before the start time.
Tutor-Child Ratio: 1:8 (strictly minimum 3 children, maximum 8 children). We will offer you an alternative course if the course is fully booked or if the course does not open.
Resources for the session: Children will need to have access to stationery, including pens or pencils and paper.
What are study skills? Study skills are the skills needed to enable children to study and learn effectively. Children aged 7-9 are guided through the fundamentals of study skills and the different techniques used to recall information. Children aged 10-12 are introduced to further techniques to understand information and find the most suitable styles for them.
What is the purpose of study skills? Study skills teach children the techniques, ideas and skills to assimilate information, understand tasks and answer questions effectively. Study skills are used across a range of subjects at school and are applicable to university and beyond. Learning study skills is vital for children to discover the best way to learn and what techniques are most suitable for them.
Benefits of developing study skills: By developing effective study skills children can boost their confidence, self-esteem and proficiency in schoolwork. Children will learn how to organise their time effectively, prioritise tasks and improve their ability to retain and understand information. Children who use study skills effectively take pride in their work and feel that their effort is worthwhile.
About this course: This virtual course has been designed for children to enjoy, have fun and learn. Our virtual weekend courses are small. The rationale behind having small groups is to enable tutors and children greater scope for interaction, dialogue, questions and answers. We also stimulate children to be creative. We teach children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution. We also foster the development of resilience. Sometimes, some children tend to give up easily. We teach children that they need to try for alternate solutions to a given problem in a logical and creative way.
