SCIENCE SUMMER CAMP (MON. 20/08 – FRI. 24/08)

When: Monday 20 August until Friday 24 August inclusive

 

Time: From 9:00 am until 3:30 pm (registration opens at 8:40 am and closes at 8:55 am)

 

Children: 4 to 11 (children are organised into separate groups depending on their age and level of knowledge)

 

Level: All levels of knowledge are welcomed

 

Location: Imperial College London. Huxley Building. Queens Gate. SW7 2RH

 

Lunch: Children bring their packed lunch, a few snacks and enough water for the day

 

Children will be participating in a variety of demonstrations, group activities and practical experiments and will learn about exciting and enriching topics. Students learn through a hands-on approach and are welcome to take home any objects they have made throughout the week. See more details below.

Monday 20 August: Anatomy and Physiology

Anatomy and physiology is the branch of science concerned with the human body. In this session, children will be learning about the structure and function of various different organs and organ systems in the body. We will use real dissection samples and models to teach children concepts.

 

Tuesday 21 August: Behavioural Sciences

In this neuroscience, psychology and cognitive science-based day, children will be challenged with a series of tasks that look at how our appearance influences our behaviour or how our perception of words and colours changes due to The Stroop Effect.

 

Wednesday 22 August: Anthropology

Anthropology is the study of humans, societies and their culture. In this science and history-themed day, children will be tasked with identifying bones, modelling houses from the past and recreating cave paintings.

 

Thursday 23 August: Weird and Wild Weather

In this session, your child will learn about the science behind a wide range of weather phenomenon. We will cover earthquakes, landslides, volcanoes and more through group activities and hands-on tasks.

 

Friday 24 August: Sports Science

Your child will become an athlete for the day as they learn and discover different aspects of fitness and how lifestyle choices can affect sport performance. Children will take part in a series of fitness tasks and will have the opportunity to analyse their results.
