When: Monday 13 August until Friday 17 August inclusive

 

Time: From 9:00 am until 3:30 pm (registration opens at 8:40 am and closes at 8:55 am)

 

Children: 4 to 11 (children are organised into separate groups depending on their age and level of knowledge)

 

Level: All levels of knowledge are welcomed

 

Location: Imperial College London. Huxley Building. 180 Queens Gate. SW7 2RH

 

Lunch: Children bring their packed lunch, a few snacks and enough water for the day

 

Children will be participating in a variety of demonstrations, group activities and practical experiments and will learn about exciting and enriching topics. Students learn through a hands-on approach and are welcome to take home any objects they have made throughout the week. See more details below.

Monday 13 August: Film Star Science

There are lights, cameras and action in this session as children use the film industry as our context. We will cover the properties of light, electricity, lenses and more in this session as children learn about the science behind films and stages performances.

 

Tuesday 14 August: Agricultural Science

Agriculture is the science of growing crops and animals. In this session, your child will learn about the ideal conditions to grow certain plants, what intensive farming is and the machinery needed to harvest crops.

 

Wednesday 15 August: The Persian Empire

The Persians were an ancient civilisation that lived over 2000 years ago. In this session, your child will learn about the contributions made towards science from different Persian scientists. Your child will recreate different structures and experiments of the past.

 

Thursday 16 August: Geological Sciences

In this session, your child will learn about a broad range of topics such as rock types, tectonic plates and natural disasters. They will be tasked with recreating a landslide, earthquake and more.

 

Friday 17 August: Problem-solving Science

Our final session of the week culminates in a series of challenges and tasks that children must accomplish as a team. They must use their creativity and ingenuity to build a safe raft, for example, that must successfully cross an area of water.
