***FACE-TO-FACE ROBOTICS & PROGRAMMING SUNDAY CLASS WITH BRAND NEW TOPICS, PROJECTS AND DISCUSSIONS***
Frequency: Every Sunday. See our 2021-22 calendar here.
Attendance: Children are expected to attend on a weekly basis (rollover sessions are available in line with the selected package).
Time: From 10:00 am until 12:00 pm
Location: The Hampshire School. 15 Manresa Road. Chelsea. SW3 6NB.
Tutor-Child Ratio: 1:12 (strictly minimum 5 children, maximum 12 children). We will offer you an alternative course if the course is fully booked or if the course does not open or if at any time, for any reason during the term, there are fewer than five children enrolled until the end of the term.
Resources for the session: Children will need to have access to stationery, including pens or pencils and paper.
Laptops: We provide our own laptops for the sessions completely free of charge.
Robots: We provide the robots completely free of charge. We pre-assemble the robots for children to focus and make progress on learning fundamental robotics concepts and programming.
Non-contact registration and dismissal procedure: Children are registered and dismissed using our exclusive non-contact Security code system. Our registration and dismissal process takes place outside the venue. No exceptions.
What is the purpose of Robotics & Programming? Nowadays, coding and programming are considered a basic but fundamental literacy skill within the digital age. Therefore, it is paramount for children to learn and have a good understanding of how coding and computer science work so they will also be able to understand how technology works and how technology continually evolves around us.
The importance of learning robotics and programming at a young age: Coding and programming in schools are becoming a central concept in many academic institutions these days. Aside from the practical impact of coding and programming for future careers, it also offers other benefits for children learning the process. For both, the academic and non-academic performance of the children, coding tends to make a positive impact. Several educational institutions now introduce coding in their curriculum, including universities. It seems like the world has become more dependent on technology nowadays, and knowledge of coding is an advantage in the professional world.
About this course: This face-to-face Sunday course has been designed for children to enjoy, have fun and learn. Our face-to-face autumn courses are small to enable tutors and children greater scope for interaction, dialogue, questions and answers. We motivate children to develop their understanding of computer science and specific coding languages while having fun. We also stimulate children to be creative. We teach children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution.
What we teach: Learn and consolidate fundamental principles of Robotics & Programming. Mathematical concepts such as area, perimeter, circumference, circumnavigation, fractions, decimals, percentages and how these concepts are applied to real-life situations. We offer an exclusive opportunity to learn about robotics and programming by using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 virtual environment. We also stimulate children to be creative. We teach children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution. We also foster the development of resilience. Sometimes, some children tend to give up easily. We teach children that they need to try for alternate solutions to a given problem in a logical and creative way.
Academic impact: Coding and programming help children learn mathematics, in a practical way, since they start to visualise abstract concepts. Children are encouraged to see the real-world application of mathematics instead of relying solely on abstract figures that sometimes they cannot relate to. Children might also improve in writing because of the development of coding and programming skills. Children learn the value of planning before starting a task. They also learn how to be concise but accurate.
Differentiation: At Richer Education, we understand that ‘one size does not fit all‘. Therefore, our tutors and mentors differentiate the content of our sessions. We ensure that all children, regardless of their level of knowledge, are engaged at the appropriate level and pace.

First look at the EV3 hardware and software, Robot control, Moving blocks, Decision Making, Learning maths running a test with the robot, React to the environment: robot sensors, Robo-gripper, Variables and Sensor calibration, Making your own block, Parallel beams, Intermediate menu system, Proportional control, Bug Algorithm, Array, Going Up and Down, Colour, SCARA Robot, Robot assistance, The Maze Runners, The Bio-inspired final challenge.
IN THIS COURSE, CHILDREN WILL:
- Learn and consolidate fundamental principles of robotics & programming
- Learn how to program a robot using light, ultrasonic, touch and infrared sensors
- Understand how programs work and what codes do
- Work on practical activities using robots
- Develop problem-solving skills, teamwork and resilience
EXTRA-CURRICULAR IMPACT: THE DEVELOPMENT OF SKILLS FOR LIFE
From experience, we notice that children tend to develop transferable skills through coding and programming. Coding and programming involve creative thinking. We stimulate children to problem-solve. Sometimes, children tend to expect to be right all the time. However, coding and programming teach children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution. We also foster the development of resilience.
