What is public speaking? Public speaking is the process of communicating ideas to an audience. It is a formal way to share information with a group of people. Good public speakers can effectively address and engage with an audience.

What is the purpose of learning public speaking skills? Public speaking is used to transmit information, sell an idea, share a story or to motivate and encourage an audience. This course encourages children to learn, develop and practise their public speaking skills in a supportive, interactive and small group environment. This course is structured so that children, firstly, understand the importance of public speaking, learn how to communicate their ideas successfully and consider the impact of their words, tone and delivery on an audience.

Benefits of developing public speaking skills: Public speaking is a skill used in everyday life which is highly valued and respected. Children will learn how to feel more confident and understand that public speaking is a task to relish and enjoy,  and not to fear. Public speaking skills equip children with the knowledge to think critically, prepare their speeches in detail and deliver speeches convincingly. Public speaking also encourages children to develop their leadership skills, communication skills, writing skills, social skills and more.

About this course: This virtual course has been designed for children to enjoy, have fun and learn. Our virtual weekend courses are small. The rationale behind having small groups is to enable tutors and children greater scope for interaction, dialogue, questions and answers. We also stimulate children to be creative. We teach children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution. We also foster the development of resilience. Sometimes, some children tend to give up easily. We teach children that they need to try for alternate solutions to a given problem logically and creatively.

What we teach: What public speaking is. The importance of non-verbal communication, including microexpressions. How to communicate a message effectively. How to use quotations. The importance of facts. Addressing your audience. Presentation skills. Attention grabbers. Structuring a speech.

Differentiation: At Richer Education, we understand that ‘one size does not fit all‘. Therefore, our tutors and mentors differentiate the content of our sessions. We ensure that all children, regardless of their level of knowledge, are engaged at the appropriate level and pace.
