The importance of learning science at a young age: Science is certainly a very fascinating subject to learn as it stimulates children’s curiosity about nature and about what constantly occurs in our lives. Science also fosters children understanding of how things work. For instance, the human body, the universe, plants, energy, electricity among many other topics. As children grow up in an increasingly technologically and scientifically advanced world, they need to be scientifically literate to succeed. Ideally, children benefit from learning the scientific method on how to think, learn, solve problems and make informed decisions.

Academic impact: Undoubtedly, there is a direct academic impact as a result of attending weekend science classes. The first noticeable impact on children is how learning science is an enjoyable experience and the one that the children will remember for a lifetime. during and after attending virtual weekend courses, children tend to perceive that science is a ‘live’ subject that does not necessarily need to be learned from textbooks all the time.

About this course: This virtual Sunday course has been designed for children to enjoy, have fun and learn. Our virtual autumn courses are small to enable tutors and children greater scope for interaction, dialogue, questions and answers. We motivate children to develop their understanding of science while having fun. We also stimulate children to be creative. We teach children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution.

What we teach: We encourage children to learn and discuss in-depth science facts and concepts. We also motivate children to have a good understanding of biology, chemistry and physics and the way science impact our day to day lives. Children work on activities to develop problem-solving skills, teamwork and resilience.

Topics include: Polymerisation, Coordination and Control, Momentum and Acceleration, Decomposition, Forensic Science, Awesome Aeronautics, Geology Rocks, Electromagnetic Spectrum, Mighty Machines, Marine Biology, The Expanding Universe, Excrete This, Crazy Cosmetics,  Rates of Reaction, The Eye and the Lens, Homeostasis, The Chemistry of the Environment, Rocket Power, Smart Science, Clever Materials, Acids, Alkalis and Salts.

Differentiation: At Richer Education, we understand that ‘one size does not fit all‘. Therefore, our tutors and mentors differentiate the content of our sessions. We ensure that all children, regardless of their level of knowledge, are engaged at the appropriate level and pace.
