When: Monday 16 July until Friday 20 July inclusive

 

Time: From 9:00 am until 3:30 pm (registration opens at 8:40 am and closes at 8:55 am)

 

Children: 4 to 11 (children are organised into separate groups depending on their age and level of knowledge)

 

Level: All levels of knowledge are welcomed

 

Location: Imperial College London. Huxley Building. 180 Queens Gate. SW7 2RH

 

Lunch: Children bring their packed lunch, a few snacks and enough water for the day

 

Children will be participating in a variety of demonstrations, group activities and practical experiments and will learn about exciting and enriching topics. Students learn through a hands-on approach and are welcome to take home any objects they have made throughout the week. See more details below.

Monday 16 July: Radical Rides

Our inaugural session of the Summer Camp season begins with a look at the physics of rides. Children will work in teams as they construct model theme park rides that they will design, build and test.

 

Tuesday 17 July: Extra-terrestrial Science

Your child will go undercover in this session as they are tasked with learning and investigating an alien that has arrived from outer space. This topic will cover areas such as navigation, material science, physics and anatomy.

 

Wednesday 18 July: Brilliant Bugs

Brilliant bugs will teach your child the anatomy and behaviour of a variety of different insects. Children will make and use different equipment to capture insects along with making insect models.

 

Thursday 19 July: Ancient Greek Science

We travel back in time in this session as your child learns and discovers the contribution from the Ancient Greeks towards science. We will cover areas such as astronomy, physics, history and more.

 

Friday 20 July: “Can you hear me now?” (The Science of Communication)

In this session, your child will learn about the science behind the different forms of communication. Children will learn about soundwaves and the electromagnetic spectrum through a series of hands-on activities.
