Product Description

STEM is the acronym used for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

STEM education is based on the idea of educating children in four specific subjects in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teaching the four disciplines on a separate basis, STEM integrates children into a more cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications of the subjects.

The emphasis is on fun, yet we inspire learning about concepts through dialogue and questioning.

***PLEASE NOTE THAT TOPICS AND/OR THE ORDER OF TOPICS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE***

Monday 1 April: Transportation Engineering

The first STEM session of the Easter Camp introduces children to the role of engineers in the world of transportation. Your child will discover how bridges are constructed, the materials used in roads and the importance of railways through a variety of hands-on activities.

Tuesday 2 April: Robotics and Navigation

In this session, your child will have the unique opportunity to programme a Lego Mindstorms EV3 robot while learning about its software and hardware. Your child will learn about the role of sensors in navigating the built environment and how these may apply to future vehicles.

Wednesday 3 April: Mechatronics and Electronics

Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary subject that integrates coding, electronics and mechanical engineering. Children will use Arduino to programme and build an electronic circuit that replicates how traffic lights work and much more.

Thursday 4 April: Mathematics and Transport

Beyond calculating speed, velocity and acceleration, mathematics can be used to model and predict traffic phenomena such as traffic jams and pedestrian crowding. Children will also learn how mathematics can be used to improve the future of public transport.

Friday 5 April: Coding and Cars

Using Python as the coding language, children will explore the fundamentals of Python including while loops and if statements. Your child will be tasked with using Python to code a number plate recognition programme and a car hire app.
