STEAM is the acronym used for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.
STEAM education is based on educating children in five specific subjects in an interdisciplinary and applied approach, rather than teaching the five disciplines on a separate basis, STEAM integrates children into a more cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications of the subjects.
The emphasis is on fun, yet we inspire learning about concepts through dialogue and questioning.
***PLEASE NOTE THAT TOPICS OR THEIR ORDER ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT PRIOR NOTICE***
Monday 14 December: Robot Assistants
In this session, children will use Lego Mindstorms EV3 to program a robot that can successfully navigate an obstacle course and deliver presents on time. Children will learn about the software and hardware components of the Lego Mindstorms EV3 robot before advancing to more challenging tasks.
Tuesday 15 December: Christmas Circuits
Christmas circuits integrates concepts from electronics, coding and programming. Your child will use Arduino to assemble a circuit in the shape of a Christmas tree and program the LEDs to blink at certain intervals. Children will then progress to making a Christmas tune using a buzzer.
Wednesday 16 December: Christmas Coding
In this Python-based session, your child will be introduced to the fundamentals of the Python language including its syntax. Subsequently, children will be tasked with developing an app to help Santa deliver his presents on time. Children will also make shapes with Python turtle using the Microsoft Visual Studio package.
Thursday 17 December: Engineering in the Snow and Ice
Transportation and buildings in icy conditions require specialist knowledge of materials and equipment to exist. In this session, children will select the most insulating materials to construct a house with, build and test a snow plough and construct a ski lift. Children will learn about the engineering design process, material properties, energy, forces and more.
Friday 18 December: Ice, Snow and Heat
Our final session of the STEAM camp focuses on the integration between science and mathematics. Children will learn about crystallisation, polymerisation, sublimation and exothermic and endothermic reactions. Children will make their own Christmas slime, grow a crystal snowflake, witness dry ice demonstrations, make an ice pack while practising chemical equations.
\We offer 10% siblings discount (from your second child onwards).
Individual sessions are charged at a flat rate of £95 per child/per day.
