SCIENCE: Saturday 25 January 2020 from 2:30 pm to 7:45 pm

 

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics): Sunday 26 January 2020 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm

 

Age: 4 to 11 (Children are grouped according to their age and level of knowledge)

 

Location: Sala de Cristal, Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, CSIC. C/ José Gutiérrez Abascal, 22806 Madrid

 

English Level & Academic Level: Good level of English is required. All abilities are welcomed

 

Cost: £55 per child/per day, £90 per child for two days.

 

The workshops are aimed at children 4-13 years old who are currently attending their school in English. The science workshop is entirely delivered in English. Therefore, a good level of English is required to join. See below for the list of topics covered.

Saturday 25 January 2020: *** S C I E N C E ***

 

Natural Disasters

Earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides and volcanic eruptions are all examples of natural disasters. In this session, your child will be challenged to learn not only about the causes of natural disasters but also how STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) professionals monitor and reduce the amount of damage from natural disasters. Your child will recreate a landslide and earthquake, construct a flood barrier and more.

 

Sunday 26 January 2020: *** STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)***

 

Brilliant Biochemistry

Biochemistry is the integration between biology, mathematics and chemistry. In this session, children will learn about the purpose of enzymes, the structure of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and the structure and function of biological molecules. Children will make jelly, extract DNA from fruit and analyse the role of catalase and many more.

Break                                    5:15 pm – 5:45 pm (children must bring their lunch, snacks and drinks)

Session 3                             5:45 pm – 7:45 pm

Break                                    12:40 pm – 12:45 pm

ARRIVAL TIME

 

Parents must arrive in time to register 10 minutes before the start of the session.

 

 

ADULT/CHILDREN RATIO

 

Richer Education works to strict adult/child ratio. Our standard ratio is 1:15.

 

 

ACTIVITY REQUIREMENTS

 

We will be providing activities for children for them to analyse, evaluate, ask questions and use their imagination.  Activities are varied in their content and pace; so that the children have an opportunity to use a variety of skills and learning styles.  Activities should provide the children with challenge and, most importantly, fun.

 

 

POLICE CHECK, CHILD PROTECTION AND SAFEGUARDING 

 

Our tutors are police checked to ensure we meet the requirements of our Safeguarding and Child Protection policies.

Richer Education has carried out risk assessments for all the activities in accordance with our Health and Safety Policy. As standard practice, Richer Education carries out a general risk assessment for the venue and general activities such as lunch and parking.
