Age: 11 to 16 (children are grouped according to their age and skills level)

 

Dates: Monday 24 June until Friday 28 June inclusive

 

Time: From 8:40 am to 3:30 pm. Registration opens at 8:40 am and closes at 8:55 am. Late arrivals will not be admitted. No exceptions will be made.

English Level & Academic Level: Good level of English is required. All abilities are welcomed.

Language: The Debating & Public speaking camp is aimed at children 11-16 years old who are currently attending their school in English. The camp is entirely delivered in English. Therefore, a good level of English is required to join. See below for the list of topics covered.

 

Level: All levels of knowledge (children are split into small groups according to their age. Adult/child ratio is up to 1:15)

 

Lunch: Children must bring their own lunch, a few snacks and enough water for the day (on a daily basis)

 

Children will be participating in a variety of demonstrations, group activities and practical tasks and will learn about exciting and enriching topics. Children learn through a hands-on approach and are welcome to take home any objects they have made throughout the week. See more details below.

Monday 24 June: Planning for a Greener Future

Children will learn about policy and implementation before creating a policy document which provides a plan for creating a greener world. How might the policies (the ‘rules’) affect social behaviour?

 

Tuesday 25 June: Extinctions: Saving a Critically Endangered Species

Children are introduced to a number of endangered and critically endangered species. They will learn about the man-made impact on extinctions and debate solutions for preventing extinction.

 

Wednesday 26 June: Debating Animal Cruelty and Scientific Research

Your child will be introduced to the ways in which small and large organisations carry out scientific experiments and produce medicines and other products which are tested on animals. The value of science of finance is debated against the effects on animal welfare.

 

Thursday 27 June: Out of Space Exploration: Debating the Next Mission

What are the benefits of outer space exploration? In this session, children shall debate what are the pros and cons of outer space exploration. Analysing and debating the many technological benefits which space exploration has provided is pitted against the high government costs and lives lost in outer space exploration.

 

Friday 28 June: Debating Reasons for why Crime Happens:

What is a crime? Why does it happen? This session looks at the extent to which crime is the responsibility of individuals. Your child will be introduced to a number of key criminological concepts related to crime and deviance.
