About STEAM education: STEAM is the acronym used for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.

STEAM education is based on educating children in five specific subjects in an interdisciplinary and applied approach, rather than teaching the five disciplines on a separate basis, STEAM integrates children into a more cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications of the subjects.

The importance of learning STEAM at a young age: The rationale behind STEAM education is to stimulate children’s curiosity about how things work. For instance, the human body, the universe, plants, energy, technology, computer science among many other subjects. As children grow up in an increasingly technologically and scientifically advanced world, they need to be scientifically literate to succeed. Children benefit from learning how to think logically, how to solve problems and make informed decisions.

About this course: This face-to-face Saturday course has been designed for children to enjoy, have fun and learn. Our face-to-face courses are small to enable tutors and children greater scope for interaction, dialogue, questions and answers. We motivate children to develop their understanding of STEAM subjects while having fun. We also stimulate children to be creative. We teach children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution.

What we teach: We encourage children to learn, consolidate and expand their knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. We focus on children building their capacity to communicate confidently and effectively. How to use and adapt STEAM-related language to specific real-life contexts. We also focus on teaching STEAM within a cultural context. Children work on activities to develop problem-solving skills, teamwork and resilience.

Academic impact: Undoubtedly, there is a direct academic impact as a result of attending weekend science classes. The first noticeable impact on children is how learning about STEAM subjects is an enjoyable experience and the one that the children will remember for a lifetime. during and after attending face-to-face weekend courses, children tend to perceive that STEAM subjects are ‘live’ subjects that do not necessarily need to be learned from textbooks all the time.

Differentiation: At Richer Education, we understand that ‘one size does not fit all‘. Therefore, our tutors and mentors differentiate the content of our sessions. We ensure that all children, regardless of their level of knowledge, are engaged at the appropriate level and pace.
