***MADRID*** STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) June Summer Camp 2020


Dates: Monday 22 June until Friday 26 June inclusive


Age: 4 to 13 (children are grouped according to their age and skills level)


Time: From 8:40 am to 3:30 pm. Registration opens at 8:40 am and closes at 8:55 am. Late arrivals will not be admitted. No exceptions will be made.


Location: Sala de Cristal. Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, CSIC. C/ José Gutiérrez Abascal, 22806 Madrid
English Level & Academic Level: Good level of English is required. All abilities are welcomed.

Language: Our science camp is aimed at children 4-13 years old who are currently attending their school in English. The camp is entirely delivered in English. Therefore, a good level of English is required to join. See below for the list of topics covered.


Level: All levels of knowledge (children are split into small groups according to their age. Adult/child ratio is up to 1:15)


Lunch: Children must bring their own lunch, a few snacks and enough water for the day (on a daily basis)


Children will be participating in a variety of demonstrations, group activities and practical tasks and will learn about exciting and enriching topics. Children learn through a hands-on approach and are welcome to take home any objects they have made throughout the week. See more details below.

Monday 22 June: Neurotic Neuroscience (We use Virtual and Augmented reality in this session)

Neuroscience is the study of the structure and function of the nervous system. Children will have a unique opportunity to learn about the structure of the brain and perform a dissection. Children will also learn about the reflex arc and more.


Tuesday 23 June: Biochemistry

Biochemistry is an interdisciplinary subject that incorporates elements of biology, chemistry and mathematics. Children will be learning and discovering the role of enzymes, DNA and more through a variety of hands-on activities.


Wednesday 24 June: Sustainability

Sustainability is becoming an increasingly important area in STEM. Your child will be assigned the role of a sustainable engineer as they design, build and evaluate a pervious paving system, roof garden and more.


Thursday 25 June: Awesome Astronomy (We use Virtual and Augmented reality in this session)

Awesome astronomy covers the stars, planets, moons and beyond. Children will learn about the different constellations, recreate black holes and investigate the different layers of the planets, amongst other hands-on activities.


Friday 26 June: Rocket Science  

In this science, engineering and mathematics-based day, children will be constructing and launching a variety of different rockets using different reaction masses. Children will perform calculations that estimate its velocity and will employ Newton’s laws of motion.
