INTEGRATED CODING, MECHATRONICS AND ROBOTICS SUMMER CAMP (MON. 22 JULY – FRI. 26 JULY 2019)

£395.00

Dates: Monday 22 July until Friday 26 July inclusive.

 

Time: From 9:00 am until 3:30 pm (registration opens at 8:40 am and closes at 8:55 am).

 

Age: 9 to 14. STRICTLY FOR CHILDREN AGED 9-14. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE. (children are organised into separate groups according to their age and level of knowledge).

 

Location: Chemical Engineering building. Imperial College Road. SW7 2AZ.

 

Level: All levels of knowledge are welcome.

 

Lunch: Children bring their packed lunch, a few snacks and enough water for the day.

 

Children will be participating in a variety of demonstrations, group activities and practical experiments and will learn about exciting and enriching topics. Children learn through a hands-on approach and are welcome to take home any objects they have made throughout the week. See more details below.

Monday 22 July: The Robot Drawing Challenge

The opening session of the week uses Lego Mindstorms EV3. Children will learn and discover robot kinematics before embarking on a drawing challenge where they must use the robots to draw certain words or shapes using a colouring pen.

 

 

Tuesday 23 July: Show me your Message

In this Arduino-based session, children will connect the LCD screen and display a simple message. Children will continue to practise writing code and assembling circuits using the breadboard.

 

 

Wednesday 24 July: A Simple Website

Children will use Python in this session to build their own simple website. After an introduction to Python and website design in general, children will embark on creating their own website with text and a choice of images.

 

 

Thursday 25 July: Colourful Spin Wheel

In this mechatronics-based day, children will assemble a pre-designed spin wheel and will learn fundamental concepts related to DC motors such as the connection scheme. The DC motor will be connected to the spin wheel, using a potentiometer as a speed controller.

 

 

Friday 26 July:  A Scientific Calculator

In this coding-themed day, children will use Python to code their own scientific calculator that will be expected to perform complex calculations. Children will learn about the Python language and scientific calculators in general.
