Monday 1 July: Scripting a Play
In this opening session of the English and debating camp, children will discover the intricacies of scripting a play. Children will need to focus on the language used, presentation and public skills. As a group, children will perform their play in front of their peers.
Tuesday 2 July: An Introduction to Public Speaking
Public speaking is a fundamental skill that is applicable across many disciplines. In this session, your child will gain an insight into what public speaking entails, how to write a captivating speech and how to avoid the pitfalls of public speaking.
Wednesday 3 July: Debating Human Rights
In this session, children are introduced to human rights and learn about human rights declarations. With the help from tutors, children each map out a human right issue they wish to raise awareness about. Developing their public speaking skills, children must design and write a human rights speech on a current topic.
Thursday 4 July: Addressing your Audience
Effective writing and speaking skills are essential in order to engage the audience you are speaking with. Children will practise their English and public speaking skills by being given a variety of different audiences to speak to such as politicians, children and members of the public.
Friday 5 July: The Housing Crisis
Children will examine some of the historical markers behind the global housing crisis and the importance of addressing this issue. After analysing the information given, children will plan and present a set of measures that the London Assembly can implement to begin to address the effects of lack of housing in London.
