Dates: Tuesday 14 April until Friday 17 April inclusive.

 

Time: From 9:00 am until 3:30 pm (registration opens at 8:40 am and closes at 8:55 am).

 

Children: 9 to 14 (children are organised into separate groups depending on their age and level of knowledge)

Tuesday 14 April: Crime and Criminals

In this session, children will put into practice skills such as interpretation, proposing a solution and more. Children will be introduced to a number of key criminological concepts and will be tasked with debating the prevalence of knife crime in London. Children will work as advisors to the London Mayor as the think of ways to minimise knife crime in London.

 

 

Wednesday 15 April: A Court Case

Your child will look at cases of individuals who are accused of committing crimes. They must work in teams to produce a ‘defense case’ and then present their case to the rest of class in a courtroom-style setting. They will understand the difference between witting and unwitting evidence and also the difference between primary and secondary sources of information or data.

 

 

Thursday 16 April: Cleaning Up Our Oceans

Single use plastics and their ultimate demise in our oceans is an increasing concern for environmentalists and members of the public alike. In this session, children will discuss strategies to employ to clean up our oceans and will suggest alternatives to use in place of single use plastics. Furthermore, children will participate in interviews and prepare reports on the harmful effects of plastics on the environment.

 

 

Friday 17 April: Air Travel

Many activists argue that more needs to be done to reduce the number of flights per year and reduce emissions of carbon dioxide. In this session, your child will debate whether flights should be reserved for essential travel only and debate cleaner alternatives to aviation fuel. This session will culminate in a mini protest where a group of activists have stormed a runway.
