What is creative writing? Creative writing is a style of writing that encompasses a range of different genres and styles and goes beyond conventional fiction writing.

What is the purpose of developing creative writing skills?  Creative writing develops a child’s ability to think critically and apply their imagination through a series of fun and engaging tasks.

The importance of learning creative writing:  Creative writing is one of the core components of common entrance assessments including 7+ and 11+. Moreover, creative writing develops children’s overall creativity. Creativity is a highly valued skill for the twenty-first century as it encourages people to think beyond the ordinary and consider other ways to solve problems. Creativity also empowers people to think of novel approaches to real world problems. In addition, creative writing provides a platform for children to practice their communication skills, writing skills and critical thinking. Children are encouraged to consider any feedback provided and to self-reflect on their work.

About this course: This face-to-face course has been designed for children to enjoy, have fun and learn. Our Creative Writing Saturday classes are small to enable tutors and children greater scope for interaction, dialogue, questions and answers. We motivate children to develop their debating and public speaking skills while having fun.

Academic impact: Creative writing fosters independent thinking as children are encouraged to check their work for fluency, clarity and accuracy. The creative writing planning process helps children organise their thoughts and structure their writing in a coherent way. Children will develop their skills in reading, comprehension and critical thinking as they consider different viewpoints and learn new techniques to implement in their writing. Children will learn higher level writing techniques to develop their plot, setting and characters to create suspense and drama.

Differentiation: At Richer Education, we understand that ‘one size does not fit all‘. Therefore, our tutors and mentors differentiate the content of our sessions. We ensure that all children, regardless of their level of knowledge, are engaged at the appropriate level and pace.
