FACE-TO-FACE CREATIVE CODING (p5) SATURDAY CLASSES FOR 10-15 YEARS OLD

***FACE-TO-FACE CREATIVE CODING (p5) SATURDAY CLASS WITH BRAND NEW TOPICS, PROJECTS AND DISCUSSIONS***

 

Frequency: Every Saturday. See our 2021-22 calendar here.

Attendance: Children are expected to attend on a weekly basis (rollover sessions are available in line with the selected package).

Time: From 2:30 pm until 4:30 pm.

Location: SCI. 14 Belgrave Square. Belgravia. SW1X 8PS. 

Tutor-Child Ratio: 1:10 (strictly minimum 5 children, maximum 10 children). We will offer you an alternative course if the course is fully booked or if the course does not open or if at any time,  for any reason during the term, there are fewer than five children enrolled until the end of the term.

Resources for the session: Children will need to have access to stationery, including pens or pencils and paper.

Laptops: We provide our own laptops for the sessions completely free of charge.

Non-contact registration and dismissal procedure: Children are registered and dismissed using our exclusive non-contact Security code system. Our registration and dismissal process takes place outsidethe venue. No exceptions.

What is p5? p5 is a JavaScript library for creative coding. The focus of this library is being user-friendly. Particularly, those who have no experience in JavaScript. The language is commonly used by artists, designers, educators and beginners, p5 also makes use of HTML and can be used for web development.

What is the purpose of learning p5? Nowadays, coding is considered a basic but fundamental literacy skill within the digital age. Therefore, it is paramount for children to learn and have a good understanding of how coding and computer science work so they will also be able to understand how technology works and how technology continually evolves around us.

The importance of learning how to code at a young age:  p5 provides children with an opportunity to fuse together the logic of coding and the creativity of art. Children will learn about the fundamentals of coding and programming such as loops, functions and conditional statements before they are guided through a series of different creative projects to put theory into practice. The p5 course enables children to create their code and visualise the end product. knowledge of coding is an advantage in the professional world. Particularly, within the domain of creativity which is a desirable skill to possess for the twenty-first century.

About this course: This face-to-face Saturday course has been designed for children to enjoy, have fun and learn. Our face-to-face courses are small to enable tutors and children greater scope for interaction, dialogue, questions and answers. We motivate children to develop their understanding of computer science and specific coding languages while having fun. We also stimulate children to be creative. We teach children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution.

What we teach:  This course has been designed for children to enjoy, have fun and learn. Our face-to-face coding (p5) autumn courses are small. The rationale behind having small groups is to enable tutors and children greater scope for interaction, dialogue, questions and answers. We also stimulate children to be creative. We teach children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution. We also foster the development of resilience. Sometimes, some children tend to give up easily. We teach children that they need to try for alternate solutions to a given problem in a logical and creative way.

Academic impact: Coding helps children to learn mathematics, in a practical way, since they start to visualise abstract concepts. Children are encouraged to see the real-world application of mathematics instead of relying solely on abstract figures that sometimes they cannot relate to. Children might also improve in writing because of the development of coding skills. Children learn the value of planning before starting a task. They also learn how to be concise but accurate.
