What is art and design? Art and design embody high levels of creativity and encompasses a wide range of skills and disciplines. Art and design includes subjects such as fine art, history of art, 3D design, graphic designer, illustration, textile design and ceramics. Art and design turns children’s creativity into reality through hands-on projects.

What is the purpose of learning art and design? Art and design go beyond drawing with a pencil. Indeed, drawing is only a small portion of art and design and in many cases is only required to sketch and express their ideas. The art and design course encourages children to utilise a range of different techniques and media to express their creativity.

The importance of learning art and design: creativity continues to be highly sought after as a skill for the future. Creativity is a highly valued skill for the twenty-first century as it encourages people to think beyond the ordinary and consider other ways to solve problems. Creativity also empowers people to think of novel approaches to real-world problems. In addition, art and design provide a platform for children to express their imagination and increase their proficiency in handling different instruments and materials. Children are encouraged to consider any feedback provided and to self-reflect on their work.

About this course: This face-to-face Sunday course has been designed for children to enjoy, have fun and learn. Our face-to-face autumn courses are small to enable tutors and children greater scope for interaction, dialogue, questions and answers. We motivate children to develop their understanding of art and design while having fun. We also stimulate children to be creative. We teach children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution.

Academic impact: Learning art develops a plethora of different skills that are applicable to other subjects. Beyond creativity, learning art and design enhances motor skills, coordination, problem-solving, critical thinking and lateral thinking. Art and design teach children to take risks and that it is ok to make mistakes. Children develop a sense of responsibility, independence and ownership as they create their own projects. Through encountering challenging new ideas and tasks, children build their sense of self-belief and confidence.

Differentiation: At Richer Education, we understand that ‘one size does not fit all‘. Therefore, our tutors and mentors differentiate the content of our sessions. We ensure that all children, regardless of their level of knowledge, are engaged at the appropriate level and pace.
