What is Arduino? Arduino is an electronic platform that uses a micro-controller and the software used to programme it. Arduino is designed to make electronics more accessible.
What is the purpose of coding? Coding is considered a basic but fundamental literacy skill within the digital age. Therefore, it is paramount for children to learn and have a good understanding of how coding and computer science work so they will also be able to understand how technology works and how technology continually evolves around us.
The importance of learning how to code at a young age: Coding and programming in schools are becoming a central concept in many academic institutions these days. Aside from the practical impact of coding and programming for future studies and professional careers. For both, the academic and non-academic performance of children, coding tends to make a positive impact. Several educational institutions now introduce coding in their curriculum, including universities. Nowadays, it became apparent the world has become more dependent on technology nowadays, and knowledge of coding is an advantage in the professional world.
About this course: This face-to-face Saturday course has been designed for children to enjoy, have fun and learn. Our face-to-face autumn courses are small to enable tutors and children greater scope for interaction, dialogue, questions and answers. We integrate electronics with mechanical engineering, computer engineering, systems engineering and control engineering. Children develop the ability to integrate electronics, control, software and mechanical engineering while having fun. The course is tailored to provide children with a unique learning experience in mechanical engineering and electronics with additional multidisciplinary contribution from the field of coding using Arduino.
What we teach: This face-to-face course has been designed for children to enjoy, have fun and learn. Our face-to-face coding (Arduino) autumn courses are small. The rationale behind having small groups is to enable tutors and children greater scope for interaction, dialogue, questions and answers. We also stimulate children to be creative. We teach children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution. We also foster the development of resilience. Sometimes, some children tend to give up easily. We teach children that they need to try for alternate solutions to a given problem in a logical and creative way.
Academic impact: Coding and programming help children learn mathematics, in a practical way, since they start to visualise abstract concepts. Children are encouraged to see the real-world application of mathematics instead of relying solely on abstract figures that sometimes they cannot relate to. Children might also improve in writing because of the development of coding skills. Children learn the value of planning before starting a task. They also learn how to be concise but accurate.
Differentiation: At Richer Education, we understand that ‘one size does not fit all‘. Therefore, our tutors and mentors differentiate the content of our sessions. We ensure that all children, regardless of their level of knowledge, are engaged at the appropriate level and pace.

- Learn and consolidate fundamental principles of Arduino as a coding language, electronics and mechanical engineering
- Learn how to write simple Arduino programs
- Understand how programs work and what code does
- Work on practical activities such as building their own applications using a microprocessor
- Be encourage to develop problem-solving skills, teamwork and resilience
EXTRA-CURRICULAR IMPACT: THE DEVELOPMENT OF SKILLS FOR LIFE
Coding and programming involve creative thinking, We stimulate children to be creative. Problem-solving skills, sometimes children tend to expect to be right all the time. However, coding teaches children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution. We also foster the development of resilience. Sometimes, some children tend to give up easily. We teach children that they need to try for alternate solutions to a given problem. The emphasis is on fun, yet we inspire learning about concepts through dialogue and questioning.
