What is 11+ exam preparation? The 11+ exam is a selective examination sat by pupils in year 6 for entry into an independent senior school in year 7. Most children will sit the exam in January. However, the exam may also take place in November. These exams assess whether children have met the expected standard of the senior school. This course is a holistic approach to the 11+ assessment and focuses both on exam practice and skill development.

What is the purpose of 11+ exam preparation? This course encompasses different aspects of the 11+ assessment including mathematics, English, verbal and non-verbal reasoning along with interview skills. Many schools are also considering alternative methods to assess children beyond exams. A growing number of schools value creativity and problem-solving skills as part of a well-rounded applicant. This course teaches children about the expectations of the 11+ assessment from exam performance to behaviour and interpersonal skills.

The importance of attending 11+ exam preparation: The 11+ assessment is an increasingly competitive method of assessment for entry into private schools, particularly across top schools in London. Despite the fact that schools will be seeking children with a range of skills and interests, the primary method of assessment is through the examination and subsequent interview. The 11+ exam preparation course covers different aspects of the 7+ assessment from examination technique, examination practice, teamwork activities, interview practice and confidence building. We also encourage children to consider alternative assessment methods as part of their 11+ application.

About this course: This face-to-face Saturday course has been designed for children to enjoy, have fun and learn. Our face-to-face autumn courses are small to enable tutors and children greater scope for interaction, dialogue, questions and answers. We motivate children to develop their understanding of the 11+ assessment while having fun. We also stimulate children to be creative. We teach children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution.

What we teach:  This face-to-face course has been designed for children to enjoy, have fun and learn. Our face-to-face creative writing autumn courses are small. The rationale behind having small groups is to enable tutors and children greater scope for interaction, dialogue, questions and answers. We also stimulate children to be creative. We teach children to learn how to identify a problem and look for a solution. We also foster the development of resilience. Sometimes, some children tend to give up easily. We teach children that they need to try for alternate solutions to a given problem in a logical and creative way.

Academic impact: This course is designed to challenge and support children accordingly through their 11+ journey within a small group setting. Children are encouraged to consolidate their knowledge in mathematics and English and learn beyond the school syllabus. This course also develops children’s reasoning skills through regular practice and challenging tasks. This course also fosters the interpersonal skills of children such as creativity and problem-solving which is expected for successful examination performance. Children will become familiar with techniques to facilitate successful revision and a strong examination performance.

Differentiation: At Richer Education, we understand that ‘one size does not fit all‘. Therefore, our tutors and mentors differentiate the content of our sessions. We ensure that all children, regardless of their level of knowledge, are engaged at the appropriate level and pace.
